GCSE Business Studies

WHY DO WE TEACH THIS COURSE?

STEM industries contain some of the most influential businesses in the world. Companies are increasingly looking for employees and product creators that understand business and how products are developed to meet the needs of the customer. The skills you learn in understanding how businesses work will cement your knowledge in Computer Science, 3D Design, Media and Engineering and help you create interesting and innovative ideas that have the potential to succeed in the real world.

WHAT WILL YOU STUDY?

You will learn what is needed to start, run and improve businesses. You will learn about the different business formats and how to spot business opportunities, while finding methods to ensure a business is running effectively and understand how external aspects can influence the business.

You will also learn how to grow a business through marketing, operational and financial decisions while finding methods to ensure human resources are managed effectively for the business.

We work through case studies of famous companies and how they improved themselves as well as how some companies made mistakes to ensure your business does not go through the same process.

FUTURE PROSPECTS

  • Business CEO/owner
  • Entrepreneur
  • Investor
  • Business consultant

ASSESSMENT

There are two exams for the GCSE Business qualification. 50% of the marks come from each paper.

The first paper focuses on investigating small businesses while the second concentrates on building a business.

NEXT STEPS

You can continue your studies to AS/A/Level 3 Business at Sixth form or college, or take up an apprenticeship in a range of industries.
