Health and Social Care
The Level 3 Health and Social Care Course allows students to engage in a broad investigation of various aspects of the health and social care sector. The units give students the opportunity to engage in applied knowledge and understanding tasks to develop their health and social care knowledge
What does the qualification cover?
The qualification has three mandatory units covering the following topics:
- Human Lifespan and Development – Physical, intellectual, emotional and social (PIES) and factors affecting growth and development, interventions and the different professionals providing care and treatment
- Human Biology and Health – Human body structure and systems, normal physiological functioning and the impact of common disorders
- Health and Social Care Practice – Core principles, values and legislation that underpin and influence health and social care, and the effect of social determinants on an individual health status
At BMAT STEM Academy, we will also complete an option unit on Health Science. This course pairs particularly well with A-Level Biology and the Applied Science Course.
How will I be assessed?
Half of the qualification will be assessed thorough internally set controlled assessment (coursework). There will also be two units assessed through examinations.
Work Experience
Students completing this course will have the opportunity to complete a two-week work experience placement in a Health and Social Care setting. This experience provides excellent opportunities for on the job training and looks great on applications to Apprenticeships and Universities as well as counting towards the Baker Award.
Where can the qualification take me?
This course leads directly onto Apprenticeships or work within the Health and Social Care industries, one of the largest employment pools worldwide. The course also leads directly onto University study in areas including Nursing, Social Work or Biological Sciences.
