3D Design Level 3
Course content
This course allows students to develop their skills in 3D Design including Architectural Design and Product Design, as well as extending their understanding of critical analysis of the work of other designers.
In their first year, students will investigate the materials, techniques and processes used in Design, which will then support their second year studies in visual recording and communication where they will be given a theme to investigate and will be expected to produce an outcome based on this theme. Students will also develop their skills as critical thinkers, where they will be set the task of analysing the work of another designer and discussing their opinions on this work. The creative process unit will support learners to develop their own visual style through the presentation of a self-lead project on a theme of their choice.
Assessment
Students will study four units, of which two will be assessed through an external task. One third of their course will be assessed through the visual recording and communication unit.

What is 3D Design all about?
3D Design is a key subject for those wishing to progress into a artistic or technical area where presentation and creativity are important. In the modern world, an understanding of or appreciation of the way that ideas are presented.
Students will develop their understanding of materials, processes and techniques required to create designs. They will practice 3D CAD and physical modelling skills, drawing and presentation techniques, and critical analysis of the work of others. Students will also have the opportunity to develop spaces for use with smart technologies and for product design for human interaction, which are increasingly important skills in modern society.
Future careers linked to this subject
Students who take this course will have the opportunity to continue their studies at University, taking studies in Architecture, Product Design or other creative subjects. Many courses also offer an Art Foundation Year to further support your development as an artist or designer. Students could also take up apprenticeship work in a creative or technical field.
Entry requirements
Students should have achieved a Level 5 in Art and Design or 3D Design. Those who have not taken or achieved this grade will be required to submit a portfolio.
