A-Level Case Study 2024
Posted: 16th August 2024A James Bond style animated sequence and the launch of an Etsy shop are among the goals in front of one teenager.
Haydon Costall, 18, from Takeley, picked up Double Distinction in double engineering and Distinction in 3D design.
He is now heading to Anglia Ruskin University, in Cambridge, to study computer games art.
He switched to BMAT STEM Academy in Year 10 as he was attracted to the range of science, technology, engineering and maths subjects on offer at the business focused school and sixth form.
His ambition is to achieve small goals on his way to finding the career which feels like a hobby.
He said: “My goal is to feel happy in my own boots. I have got a bunch of small goals, such as film my own animation sequence like a James Bond opening scene and make my own Etsy page. But, everyone should strive towards being the best person – that’s what we were taught at BMAT STEM, to do what we enjoy. That has stuck with me and will motivate me for all of my life. The money will come if you are doing something you are dedicated to.
“I moved to BMAT STEM Academy because it is a STEM specialist school and I felt it was very important to get an education in that area as that is where all the jobs are going. They offer a wide range of interesting subjects and the teachers are really fond of them.
“The school and sixth form are set up like an office, rather than a school, so it feels very professional. It’s the sort of building I imagine myself working in in the future. It felt quite special.
“I was pretty happy seeing my results today. Concentrating on my studies has given me a leg up. You can get really far by having good standards in yourself. But, having a school to support you, as well, is a real benefit.”
